This webinar examines how national contexts shape generative AI development and creative implementation through a comparative French-Australian analysis. Drawing on insights from the Re/Framing AI symposium and ongoing collaborative research, we map distinct characteristics of each country's AI innovation ecosystems, comparing industry approaches alongside grassroots development and informal creative economies. We explore how cultural differences manifest in the aesthetic reception of AI-generated media, and how cross-cultural theoretical and practical approaches converge and differ. These variations reveal unique pathways for ethical and sustainable AI integration in creative sectors.
Beyond comparative mapping, we propose that cross-cultural collaboration offers unique insights toward developing nuanced AI theory and practice. By combining material media analysis with visual computing and interface design, we argue for frameworks that balance practical utility with critical implementation. Our collaboration itself demonstrates how international academic partnerships can enrich understanding of AI's role in creative practice, concluding with specific opportunities for Franco-Australian cooperation in research, education, and cultural innovation.
