Follow up on the AFRAN Forum
The Australian-French Association for Research and Innovation (AFRAN) held its annual forum on 26 and 27 October 2023 in Perth. This 8th AFRAN Forum was the first to be held in Western Australia and focused on ‘Developing research connections for the Indian Ocean’.
The two-day event was hosted by Murdoch University and financially supported and organised in partnership with the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the French Embassy in Australia and CNRS.
The forum met its objectives of highlighting current academic and scientific collaborations, facilitating the development of new connections, and discussing existing and new opportunities in the fields of research and innovation for the Indian Ocean region.
The AFRAN Forum brought together many regional partners, experts, researchers and industry representatives from Australia, France, Reunion Island and a range of countries in the region including Mauritius, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bangladesh.
The forum and its partners enabled AFRAN to launch its Indian Ocean Hub. We were able to verify the interest of participants through the forum and beyond to participate in the hub’s development, and noted strong support for progressing research and innovation cooperation across the region that leads to inclusive and sustainable development across the region.
