Officially created on 1 January 2017, the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme et du Pacifique (House of Human and Pacific Science) is part of the National Network of Maisons des Sciences de l'Homme (Houses of Human Sciences). It is the most recent of the 23 existing Maisons des Sciences de l'Homme and the first outside France and overseas.

Its purpose is to allow better international collaboration with, as a priority, the institutions of the Pacific and therefore with Australia. The ambition of this French initiative is to become, in the long term, an high-level research center in the humanities.
