[CALL FOR INITIATIVES] - Successful candidates 2026

AFRAN is pleased to announce that this year's successful application to our Call for Initiatives, partially funded by the Embassy of France to Australia.


On the General stream, have been selected:

  • Dr Malik Oedin and his project: Launching the Melanesia Biocultural Network: Building Indigenous-led Research and Conservation Partnerships across France, Australia and Melanesia - the launch will happen in Melbourne in November 9 to 13

  • Dr Maxime Cordeil and his project: Franco-Australian Workshop on Immersive Human-AI Teaming for Critical Systems to be held from October 2026 to January 2027 online

  • Dr Aurelie Delisle and her project: Governing Blue Futures: Youth, Gender and Customary Fisheries

    Governance in Australia and New Caledonia

  • Dr Hugues Blache and his project: Café des Sciences – Transport & Mobility: Franco-Australian

    Perspectives on Tomorrow's Mobility to be held in Lyon in November

  • Dr Florence Boulard and her project: Sport, Youth and Climate Futures in the Pacific: Building an Australia–Francophone Pacific Network - a first panel discussion has been held in Townsville last month for our 10 years anniversary. Please reach out if you'd like to be part of the network

  • Ms Sarah Vallee and her project: Building a dynamic AFRAN AI Community - with a first event to be held later this month in partnership with FAWIB (French-Australian Women in Business)


On the Bushfire and Natural Hazard stream, has been selected:

  • M Ha Ninh Nguyen and his project: From 3D Firebrand Characterisation to Predictive Spotting Models: Advancing France–Australia Wildfire Research


We warmly thanks all candidates for submitting excellent projects, we wish we could fund them all. And we of course thanks the Embassy of France to Australia for its on-going support for this call for initiatives.
