[OPPORTUNITY] Postdoctoral Fellow in Algal Genetic Engineering for Climate Resilience – UNSW Sydney
Applications close: 5 November 2026
The University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow to join an exciting research project exploring how genetic engineering can enhance the climate resilience of marine algae. Based at the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (BABS), the position is funded by Revive & Restore as part of the Golden Genome Project, Algal Genetic Engineering for Climate Resilience.
About the research project
Climate change is placing increasing pressure on marine ecosystems. This project aims to develop innovative genetic tools to better understand and improve the resilience of marine algae to changing environmental conditions.
The successful candidate will contribute to research combining molecular biology, microalgal genetics and CRISPR-based gene editing, including:
Developing insertional deletion libraries in microalgal species to identify genes involved in climate resilience.
Developing genetic transformation protocols for Ecklonia radiata, an ecologically important Australian kelp species.
Maintaining and culturing microalgal strains and contributing to collaborative research outputs.
