Congress of the French Laureates of Australia

The French Embassy, in collaboration with the Australian-French Association for Research and Innovation (AFRAN) and the ANU Centre for European Studies co-hosted the inaugural Congress of the French Laureates of Australia on 2 March 2023. 23 Australian Commandeurs, Officiers and Chevaliers of the Ordre des PalmesAcadémiques (Order of Academic Palms) gathered at the ANU to discuss ways to further support French-Australian academic and cultural initiatives. The Ordre des Palmes Académiques is an honour by the government of France that dates back to Napoleon Bonaparte to recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to education and culture. The Congress of French Laureates of Australia will collaborate with AFRAN to support academic initiatives. The Congress was chaired by Prof Jacqueline Lo.

Some outcomes discussed during this congress were to integrate a Human and Social Sciences Community within AFRAN (with members of ISFAR, for example), and to have online and in-person meetings (at the occasion of the AFRAN Forum, for example).
